The History Department of Chatswood High is a dynamic department that teaches a full range of History courses. As well as the Mandatory Syllabus for Years 7-10, we also teach Elective History in Stage 5, Modern and Ancient History in Stage 6 and Extension History in Year 12. We also teach International Studies, Big History and Studies of Religion which is taught as an accelerated course to students in Stage 5.

We are fortunate to have a highly experienced staff with HSC markers in both Ancient and Modern History. We also have a practicing archaeologist who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom.

Our HSC results are exemplary with students consistently achieving above state average in the Band 5 and Band 6 range. We have also achieved first in the state in Extension History (2011) and ninth in the state in Ancient History (2015).

We also organise a range of excursions to complement the work carried out in the classroom. These include regular visits to Canberra to enhance students understanding of Australia’s heritage and a bi-annual excursion to Europe to study the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum (mandatory for the HSC Ancient History course) and the battlefields of WW1 in France and Belgium. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and greatly enhances their understanding of the Stage 6 curriculum.
