Careers

In Year 10 students attend Careers lessons, one week of work experience, and participate in learning about subject selection and decision making for Years 11 and 12.

Career Education lesson topics include job seeking skills, resume writing, researching of careers, further education and training, occupational health and safety issues, role playing, presentation, and interview practice. Students will receive a School to Work folder in which all the worksheets and information provided during Careers can be kept.

Work experience

Year 10 students are expected to undertake Work Experience. The Careers Adviser will provide information to students and parents on how and where to seek Work Experience. The correct forms will need to be completed before the student is permitted to undertake Work Experience.

In Year 11, students are invited to ask for advice about careers, subject changes, and future pathways information. In Year 12, each student is expected to participate in a formal interview with the Careers Adviser.

My High School Careers website

Chatswood High School has subscribed to a wonderful careers website which is totally accessible to all students and parents.

The My High School Careers website provides accessibility of careers information to parents and students throughout the year including:

  • careers events planned for parents and students throughout the state (any many interstate events)
  • general careers advice to the community and individual advice through an 'Ask the Careers Adviser' page
  • links to many other careers' sites (further education providers, careers advice sites, job search sites, and many others)

Students and parents are able to use the email alert service at this website. The alerts will be brief messages to tell you what is new on the site. Not all the alerts will be relevant to Chatswood students and parents as this website provides information across NSW and the ACT. Students in Years 10, 11 & 12 will still be provided with regular Careers Adviser newsletters based on the alerts from the site and other information as it is received.

How to register  - Go to www.mhscareers.com scroll down to the bottom of the page, go to Contact Us on the site and use the Email form to register. Just register your name, school and email address to receive these alerts.
